Haunted Happenings...Halloween Events In & Around Elk River!

There's a lot going on this time of year!  Don't miss out on the fun!  Check out all of the spooky-fun happenings going on in October!  Did you know that the nearby-city of Anoka is the Halloween capitol of the world?

The Great Pumpkin Roll at Lion's Park
October 17, 2009.  1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Sounds like a lot fun!   This is a contest and prizes will be awarded for the fastest pumpkins!  Here's how it works: Bring your fastest pumpkin over to Lion's Park and race it down the hill against other pumpkins!  Pre-registration is required for this event.  Registration fee is $3.00.  Rules for the Great Pumpkin Roll are as follows:
  • Your pumpkin must be able to roll down the hill by itself.  In other words, you may not add anything (like wheels) to your pumpkin or place it upon anything else with wheels or the like.
  • Your pumpkin must be decorated.
  • The size, weight and shape of your pumpkin is up to you!  Any size, weight or shape goes!
  • You are allowed to remove parts or pieces of your pumpkin. 
  • Your pumpkin must last the whole race. If your pumpkin breaks on the way down the hill, it will be disqualified.
Race Schedule:
  • 1:00pm Check-in at Lions Park Center
  • 2:00pm The race begins!

10th Annual Family Fright Night at Lions Park
October 17, 2009.  5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Lions Park in Elk River will be hosting its 10th annual "Family Fright Night".  The fun begins at 5:00 pm and ends at 9:00 pm.  Activities will include: a haunted house, monster mash dance, terror trail, lil' maze, a bonfire, inflatables, pumpkin patch, pony rides, concessions, games, crazy hair, crafts, and a movie!  This is a family event so there will be plenty child friendly activities for the little ones!  Be sure to bring a flashlight!  Volunteers are needed for this event. Please call the Elk River Parks and Recreation office at 763-635-1150 if you can help. Thanks!

Activity Times:
5-7 pm ~ Children's Treat Trail
7-9 pm ~ Terror Trail (suitable for older kids and adults)

Admission:
$5.00 per child (before October 16th)
$7.00 per child (after October 17th)
Parents/adults accompanying children are free of charge.  Fee is only for those participating in activities.

Discount, advance-purchase tickets are available for $5.00 at the Elk River Parks & Recreation building during office hours of 8am-4:30pm.  Must purchase before 10/16 to receive discount.  Discount and regular admission tickets may be purchased online until 4:00 pm Friday, October 23rd at the Elk River Parks & Recreation Department website.  Tickets ordered online will be mailed out the week of October 20th.  Tickets purchased after October 17th will be available at the will-call booth (registration desk) on the day of the event.  Admission tickets will also be available for purchase at the event for $7.00.
